LAKESHORE, SAN FRANCISCO — The 614-acre Lake Merced park remains a destination for walking, cycling and birdwatching, but public restroom hours become shorter during fall and winter.
San Francisco Recreation and Parks lists Lake Merced Park at Skyline Boulevard and Harding Road. Its general park hours are 5 a.m. to midnight. Public restrooms are listed 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. in fall and winter, compared with 8 a.m.–8 p.m. in spring and summer.
What is there to explore?
The park features an approximately 4.5-mile paved loop around the lake, picnic areas, outdoor fitness equipment and access points for water-related recreation under applicable rules. The habitat is part of the Pacific Flyway and important to migratory and resident birds.
Respect sensitive habitat
Lake Merced is both a public recreational area and an important freshwater ecosystem. Stay on approved paths, avoid disturbing nesting or feeding wildlife, and follow posted rules for dogs, fishing and boats. The lake’s presence does not mean all water activities are authorized at all points on the shore.
Visitors should verify any temporary trail closure, facility maintenance or parking restriction before traveling. Published general park hours do not guarantee that a particular restroom or dock is accessible at every moment.
